Do you know what's in that bottle of water?
Today, more than one billion people around the world do not have access to safe drinking water, and unless something is done, this problem will only get worse. Corporations are exacerbating the global water crisis by turning water into a profit driven commodity, like oil. One of the most visible examples of this is bottled water. Bottled water corporations are threatening local control of water supplies in communities across the U.S. and around the world.
Bottled water corporations like Coke, Nestlé and Pepsi have turned a common natural resource into a $100 billion market, using misleading ads to promote bottled water as safer and more pure than tap water. In reality, it's less regulated, and can actually contain harmful contaminants. Public water systems are required to disclose the source and quality of their water and are accountable to the public. Often, water bottlers are not. Tell Coke, Nestlé and Pepsi to provide water quality reports based on independent testing, comparable to those provided by our public water utilities.
